Jay O’Connor writes of his expression of song: “I don't have a musical vision in the sense of jazz or rock or whatever. It’s more like, ‘I know how I like to play bass… I want to see what happens when I get other musicians together and explore how I play bass in the context of how they play their instrument.’ Things like style will develop as a natural result of that exploration, rather than be defined ahead of time.
“My spiritual vision is simply the pursuit of musical excellence; to write and play the best music I can focused simply on creating music that will inspire others to offer the best of their talents in sacrifice and reverence to God.
“To me, a musical group can be like a microcosm of the Body of Christ. God brings a group of diverse individuals, each with a different background and set of talents and skills and when they are all united by obedience to the will of God and guided by the Holy Spirit, God can create something more beautiful than any of them could have envisioned or accomplished on their own.”
